“A Citizen’s Forum for Engaging Houston’s Most Significant Open Space System”

Historically, water has shaped the broad expanses of the Houston region, watershed by watershed, culminating in the city’s most debated landscape feature, its Bayous. If one lives in our self proclaimed “Bayou City”, how are we as individuals understanding, preserving, enhancing, degrading and generally experiencing our namesake? While eons of time have seen single drops of rain collectively express themselves, recent memory tells of the powerful political and physical influences exerted by humanity. The intent of this forum is to glean insights into how we as humans are now shaping and experiencing this landscape whether in cooperation or opposition to its natural forces.

The site is a series of six portals that have been constructed for information sharing. Each section is a living stream of information organized by each watershed within Harris County and will be updated by both site administrators and site participants. While still under construction, the master vision will be to include a detailed history of events that have brought us to our current state, local case studies of influential projects whether proposed or under construction, monthly opportunities for on-site participation and other event tracking, and linkages to useful information pertaining to both the immediate region and other relevant national or international precedents. Further information will be forthcoming shortly and any initial input or thoughts are greatly appreciated!
